Microsoft 365 in practice
Microsoft 365 combines Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Loop and the Office applications in one tenant with a shared identity and shared permissions. For organisations still running their own mail server, moving is no longer a matter of taste: support for Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 ended on 14 October 2025, and no security updates have been issued for them since.
Staying in your own datacentre means moving to the Exchange Server Subscription Edition. Microsoft supports an in-place upgrade only from Exchange 2019 CU14 or CU15; from 2016 the route runs through a classic migration to new servers. Alendris picks the migration path from the starting position — cutover for small tenants, hybrid for grown Exchange estates, tenant-to-tenant after acquisitions — and rolls out Conditional Access, sensitivity labels and Intune policies in the same project.
